The Geelong Wetlands Strategy has been adopted Council. The Geelong Wetlands Strategy provides an important role in the protection and management of the City's Wetlands.

The Wetlands Strategy provides strategic direction and guidance in the conservation and enhancement of the City's Wetlands.

The Wetlands Strategy establishes a number of strategic objectives though which the City will see wetlands protected and managed sustainably to ensure that their diversity, their high biological values, their great concentration significance and their ecosystem service functions are maintained or restored.

The City acknowledges its responsibility as a manager of natural resources within the municipality and is the authority responsible for ensuring that land use and management activities protect and improve wetlands and the living resources that depend on them.

The City also acknowledges that other agencies such as, Corangamite Catchment Management Authority, Parks Victoria along with landholders and members of the community make significant contributions to the sustainable use of the region's wetlands, which reflects the Ramsar principles.

The Wetlands Strategy will provide leadership to the community in protecting, managing, advising and advocating for the protection and enhancement of the City's wetlands
