Playgroups in Geelong:
The City of Greater Geelong has a large number of excellent playgroups that are operated by various community organisations and parent groups throughout the community. These groups provide a valuable service and support for families with young children and the local community.
What is A Playgroup
Playgroups provide parents and caregivers with the opportunity to meet new people, gain support and exchange parenting ideas. They allow babies, toddlers and preschoolers to socialise as they play and learn together. All playgroups are different but the emphasis is on fun and friendship.
Activities for the children are usually planned and managed by the parents or carers involved, although some playgroups have a paid worker or roster system to provide a regular break for parents.
What Does It Cost?
Playgroups are a very affordable activity for you and your child. The small fee paid directly contributes to the cost of running the playgroup. Membership is also available through Playgroup Victoria, which provides valuable additional resources and advice for local playgroups along insurance cover.
Starting A New Playgroup:
Parents and carers with children aged under five are welcome to participate in playgroups. It's always a good idea to shop around and find a playgroup that is going to suit you.
Alternatively why not consider starting your own. All you really need is a small group of like minded parents, a place to meet, some play equipment and resources- and off you go! Playgroups can be conducted in any venue that is safe for children and can accommodate a range of play activities. All you need is a couple of friends and a place to meet.
