Pako Festa is again set to excite, surprise and delight people of all ages.  The theme this year is Icons of ulture, inviting both participants and spectators to consider the significance and importance of the special symbols of their cultural heritage.  The Parade is always a highlight with almost 100 multicultural and community groups marching together in harmony.  Free entertainment will be provided along the length of Pakington Street.  Here are a few of the highlights are:

Stars Shine with Channel 7's Home and Away Lyn Collingwood (Colleen Smart), Paul O'Brien (Jack Holden) and Jessica Tovey (Belle Taylor).  They will be in the Pako Parade and on the Channel 7 stage afterwards.  Around 2.30pm, a couple of famous faces from the mighty Cats will take the stage to run a handball competition for young people.  Both the stars of Home and Away and the Geelong Football Club will be available for autographs and photos.

On stage highlights include Pape Mbaye from Senegal West Africa who is a  Master Percussionist as well as a dancer, choreographer, teacher and Griot (oral history, tradition and culture teacher and exponent). Along with his eight-piece band Chosani Afrique, this group brings some of the magic of West Africa to Pako Festa.  Pape has played alongside musical legends such as Miles Davis, BB King and Ringo Starr.
5.15pm - MatchWorks West Park Stage

The Dili Allstars are a high-energy seven-piece Funk, Ska, and Reggae band with some of the group originally from East Timor. They mix superb musicianship with charismatic stage presence that ensures an exciting show.
6pm - Westpac Diversity Stage

Don't miss Rory Ellis, the quintessential Australian singer/songwriter with buckets of talent and heaps of stories to tell.
3.30 - Petrel Hotel Stage

The Pako Festa also  brings contemporary art to Pakington Street with The now famous Through the Keyhole Exhibition.  Ten businesses will exhibit artwork in their shopfront window display.  Public art most often takes the form of sculpture, wall or pavement murals/mosaics or site specific work for function or aesthetic or both, so this is a unique exhibitionnot to be mised.  Participating artists include Terri Anne Beatti from the Gordon Institute of TAFE, Joyce Penny's from the Brougham School of Art and Photography and Sandra Riddell and Jacinta Stephenson from Ballarat University.

Otways Edge - Juris Cerins
Shell arts - Geelong region artists program
This exhibition of recent oil paintings and gouaches by Juris Cerins pays homage to the varied and distinctive landscape of the south-west coast of Victoria.  The Australian landscape has featured strongly in Latvian-born Cerins' practice since his arrival in 1944 as a young post-war migrant.  For the last seven years, Cerins has lived on a large bush block on the edge of the Otway Ranges, and it is the coast and surrounding landscape that inspire his work-particularly its marine forms, rock pools, inlets, flood and tidal debris.  Cerins' affinity with the landscape in which he lives and paints is clear: he explores its colours, surfaces and shadows and records these in plein-air drawings in gouache.  Vistas and landforms such as rock formations, eroded gullies, estuaries and treed hillsides are re-interpreted to suggest the mood of the landscape.  These then form a reference for his oil paintings in which the features of the landscape are further dissected, abstracted and rendered in a vibrant palette.
