Every generation has a story to tell and the activities of each in the community of the City of Greater Geelong, in family, work and play, add to the rich tapestry of human interaction that has formed the region. The City is what it is today because of its past and its future can best be understood by reference to its past, where its character was formed. The constant accumulation of historical data is therefore an important role for a community archives like the Geelong Heritage Centre.
The Centre relies on donations of records, photographs, books and maps to enhance its collections. The Centre is interested in records directly related to Geelong and district or with some association to Geelong.
These records can be personal and family papers, records of a business or company, records of a sporting club, social group, church group, professional association, local government and the like.
Please keep the Centre in mind when considering the disposal of records, photographs, plans and personal papers and contact the Archivist for an opinion on their historical worth and whether they could be added to the Centre's collections.
