Community Update

12 July 2005

Selected households across the municipality will be called on from this weekend to participate in the City of Greater Geelong's Community Survey, said Mayor Cr Shane Dowling.

"The Community Survey is an opportunity for ratepayers to have their say and contribute to the long term planning of the Greater Geelong region," said the Mayor.

He said the information and opinions collected during the survey would help Council determine community priorities and directions for the next four years.

"The survey will give a clear picture of the community's views on a broad range of Council services and activities," Cr Dowling said. "We anticipate that the survey will also identify opportunities for new initiatives and highlight areas where service delivery can be adapted to reflect community priorities, he said. Governance, Communications and Finance portfolio holder Cr Jan Farrell said the survey would be conducted by Metropolis Research.

"Representatives from Metropolis Research will be door knocking homes from this weekend and asking residents to complete an interview style questionnaire," Cr Farrell said. She said that a total of 800 households would be contacted between Saturday 16 July and Sunday 14 August.

"The researchers will carry official identification
and will only call on homes during daylight hours on the nominated weekends, and residents can be assured that all responses will remain confidential," she said.

"Our Community Survey is an important avenue for people to give us feedback and I would certainly encourage people to take part if they are called upon by the research team," Cr Farrell said.

Each interview is expected to take a maximum of 20 minutes to complete. Mayor Dowling said the Community Survey was a demonstration of Council's commitment to consult widely within the community and provide opportunities for members of the public to participate in the decision making process.
