Geelong Major Events (GME) has reported back to Council for the period of October to December 2007.
Events occurring during the four-month period include the Ron Clarke Track Meet and Australia's largest National Schools Basketball Tournament. Other GME sponsored events held during the quarter were the food and wine event Toast to the Coast, and Denis Walter Carols by the Bay.

Council also approved an amendment to the GME Terms of Reference to allow for varied terms of appointment for the four external representative positions.

'Providing for two-year and four-year appointments allows greater flexibility and continuity," said Cr Harwood.

'GME has put in a lot of ground work over the past three years that we will see come to fruition down the track', said Cr Harwood. 'The UCI World Road Cycling Championships announced for Geelong for 2010 represents a major coup.'

The four GME external representatives were all reappointed to the Committee. Sally Beck and Helene Bender were appointed for two-year terms, and Nicholas Heath and Bryce Neilsen for four-year terms.

Membership of GME includes:
• The Mayor and up to three other councillors appointed by Council
• The Chief Executive Officer
• The Executive Director of Geelong Otway Tourism
• Four external representatives from the business/media/arts/events communities

GME was formalised as a section 86 (Local Government Act 1989) committee in October 1999. Meetings are open to the public and are held on the third Monday of each month at 4.00pm.
