Street parties are a great way to celebrate, socialise, share ideas and build a sense of community within your street or neighborhood, while also being a lot of fun.
The City of Greater Geelong encourages residents to consider staging a street party in their neighborhood and can assist you by providing general advice and support in staging a street party.
What is a Street Party? A street party as an event where a gathering of residents will celebrate an occasion on a closed road reserve – including a road surface, nature strip or on a footpath.
A street party requires permission from the City and you will need to plan appropriately. You can obtain approval to stage your street party by completing the street party event application process
.
Why do I need to plan and gain approval? There's more to a street party than rolling your BBQ into your street and inviting all of your neighbours and friends to join you! When planning your street party, you will need to consider:
> Where will the party be and what roads are affected? > Which roads will be closed or impacted by your street party? > Have you invited your neighbours and do at least 75 per cent agree to your street party? > How will you manage your waste? > What will you do about music and noise? > Who will be able to provide first aid? > What risks are involved? > Will you need security? > Will your street party need lighting, street furniture or shelter?
The City can help you with these elements by providing guidance and advice.
