The latest phenomenon in Ironman, the global collection of Ironman 70.3 events managed by Ironman Corporation, has arrived in Australia.
The series has quickly developed into more than 16 events worldwide, with the Snap Ironman 70.3 Australia event being a qualifier with 75 slots for the Ford Ironman 70.3 World Championship held in Clearwater, Florida, USA in November 2009.
The Snap Ironman 70.3 Australia consists of a 1.9km swim, a 90km cycle and 21.1km run and a prize purse of $US10,000.
Ironman 70.3 Geelong course:
Ironman 70.3 Geelong will be staged at Eastern Beach with grandstands available for public viewing in Ritchie Boulevard. There is a designated area for people in wheelchairs.
The swim starts and finishes on the sand area of Eastern Beach – between the Yacht Club and the Eastern Beach pool. The bike stage starts at Eastern Beach and travels out of town via Eastern Park, heading down the Geelong Portarlington Road to Hermsley Road. The run travels along Hearne Parade and around the running track in Eastern Park.
Competitors will travel 113.1km or 70.3 miles.

Entry is open to all ages and physical abilities.
You don't have to be a professional athlete. Why not consider giving it a go!
Entry is available for Individuals and Teams. All teams consist of three people).
A maximum of 1,200 people can enter the competition. This will ahve a breakdown of 1,050 individual athletes and 50 teams. (If the demand for individual entries versus team entries is greater, the split will be adjusted accordingly).

- Geelong first hosted the event in 2008.
- Ironman 70.3 Geelong is the only Australian qualifier for the prestigious Ford Ironman 70.3 World Championship event held in Clearwater, Florida, USA each November. This event is a qualifier for the elite Hawaii Ironman.
- Ironman 70.3 Geelong consists of a 1.9km swim, a 90km cycle and 21.1km run – equivalent to 70.3 miles.
- 24 international competitors have already entered Ironman 70.3 Geelong. They will represent: Canada, China, Germany, Mexico, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the USA.
- Korean National Team athletes announce they will be taking part in the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Geelong event. Jan Rehula – 3rd place at Sydney Olympics - is their coach and says: "that our group can stir up the final results and add some more international flavour to your extremely strong start field". The team, who are currently training in the Snowy Mountains as a part of 3 month altitude training camp consists of:
