Addional info: In commemoration of Ron Clarke's athletic feats, a National A-Series Track Meet with some of Australia's best athletes and local athletics clubs will be held in Geelong, with entertainment, races, giveaways.

The 2007 running of the 'Wheeler Investment Advisors' Ron Clarke Classic saw local football clubs South Barwon, Leopold, Newcomb Power, Ocean Grove, Belmont Lions and Bannockburn take on AFL powerhouse Essendon for the Jack Clarke Perpetual Trophy. The six clubs won the right to race Essendon as winners of either the senior or reserve grand final from Geelong's three football leagues.

To also balance out the competition the Geelong Football Umpires League also submitted a team.

The race was a 3km event with all teams required to submit a minimum of 5 athletes and a maximum of 10. After 4 laps whichever players are not in the first 5 of their respective clubs were eliminated. Then the 5 players that do cross the finish line, will all score points based on placing and the club with the lowest score will win the Jack Clarke Perpetual Trophy.

In another coup for the meet, the race was sponsored by Sportsco and has offered $1,500 worth of sporting goods to the winning team with $1,000 for second and a further $500 for third place.

Strong crowds headed to Geelong for the four-hour athletic and entertainment fiesta. Special guests in 2007 included Ron Clarke, Steve Moneghetti, Bronwyn Thompson, Scott Martin, Georgie Clarke and Athletics Australia CEO Danny Corcoran.
