  • An F1 Superboat weighs a mere 560kg with the driver included!
  • F1 Superboats start from a standing start and execute hairpin turns at over 160kmh with the competitors.

Additional Info:
Geelong's famous Eastern Beach, just a short walk from the city centre, will be a hive of waterfront activity.  Visitors to Eastern Beach can expect the ultimate ‘water sports festival', with the surrounding lawns, playground, pavilions, restaurants, café and kiosk, along with key event activities, further adding to the wide scope for a free weekend of activities for all.

From any vantage point spectators can view the entire course of 1.7 km circumference on the foreshore of Steampacket Gardens, ensuring they miss none of the action. Watching the best of the best, competing over 2 action-packed days, for the title of National Champion, in one of the most intensely exciting, extreme sports, ever conceived.  Every driver has the opportunity to prove himself by taking the lead on any lap, executing hairpin turns at over 5gs and high speed passing manoeuvres at over 200kph of that are frequent and decisive.

Speeds so high the water becomes as hard as concrete - competitive, fascinating, challenging, daring, risky and entertaining!  Enthralled by the action, the crowds get louder as the drivers go harder!

Incorporating 7 rounds, the Series sees competitors arriving at Geelong from various parts of Australia and abroad including New Zealand, in turn attracting an array of top powerboats and a large field of support classes, ensuring a fantastic event.

Managing Director of the Australian Formula One Superboat Management further commented on the first round by saying – "It's good that we can provide differing courses and conditions to challenge the drivers. It makes them think of boat set up, weight distribution, general handling and in all makes for great racing. I'm quite looking forward to the new round of our National Championship Series at Geelong and its potential as a long term venue and am sure that the region will witness some the most spectacular racing ever seen. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank City of Greater Geelong, Parks Victoria, Geelong Mercure and the other local businesses and sponsors for their assistance and support in making it happen."

Continuing the excitement, the first round in 2008 sees the introduction of the new Jet Ski support class which will add another dimension to the Series attracting further interest from competitors, spectators and sponsors and maintaining non stop action.  Families enjoy making a day (or weekend) of it, as admission is free, whilst the 18-54 year old sporting, water, motor and outdoor leisure enthusiasts just can't get enough of the high octane atmosphere.

Transporting these 240 km/h, 560 kg missiles is no mean feat. However watching the crews unload them IS spectacular, with first-comers constantly blown away by the sheer spectacle of a fleet of F1 Superboats at full cry.
From nought to 160 km/h in under four seconds, from dead silence to noise similar to a space shuttle launch in the blink of an eye, pulling fighter jet-like G forces on turns and 360+ horsepower from a screaming 2.5L V6 outboard race engine, the crowds get the lot!

Add to this, increased television coverage through Channel Nine and Fox Sports, along with state and local council/government and tourism support, and you've got yourself one big round and one big year of thrills, spills and guaranteed action and a waterborne clash of the titans!
