The Victorian Lifesaving Championships continues to be a highlight for all members aged from U15 through to Open - with the best talent in Victoria competing in the two-day event.

The 2009 Victorian Lifesaving Championships, to be held at Ocean Grove SLSC, will raise the bar from what has been seen in previous years, displaying a new breed of lifesaving champions. This new group of Victorian competitors are set to achieve the type of results that have not been seen in over a decade. 

The beach will be alive with excitement at Ocean Grove with hometown heroes such as Harriet Brown, Samantha Cain and Sam Rankin dominating the Champs against Victoria's best.

These young competitors will show their incredible levels of fitness by competing in up to 25 events each over the two days.

"The amount of training and dedication that all these athletes put in all season is amazing" said Life Saving Victoria Sport Events Coordinator Drew Urlichs, "our surf lifesavers also engage in regular competition to maintain their skills and fitness for real life rescues".

The State Championships are the pinnacle of the Victorian Lifesaving legacy, involving competitions held at club, regional, state, national and then international levels around them.

Competition is both fun and fierce, and conducted in the highest standard of sportsmanship, as is befitting of surf lifesavers regarded by many as pillars of the Australian community.
