Multicultural Action Plan

In recognition of our changing cultural mix we have developed a Multicultural Action Plan to provide direction for planning and services.

According to the 2006 Census almost 20 per cent of residents were from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

In the last four years this continues to change with humanitarian arrivals to Geelong including Karen and Kareni people from Burma, Sudanese and Congolese people.

The plan has been developed in conjunction with different agencies and recognises the importance of embracing cultural diversity. It underpins our planning and service provision until 2014.

There are 35 actions across four themes of respect and recognition, access and equity, responsive services and support.

One of the key aims is to reduce the barriers to Council services and information.
