POSSESSION AND USE
Table 64 lists the number of drug offences (use and possession) for selected LGAs, Barwon South Western region, PCPs, constituent LGAs and all Victoria.
Please note that these trends are more likely to reflect changes in policing than changes in the number of people who commit drug offences.
This table shows:
· Barwon PCP and Southern Grampians-Glenelg PCP show a decrease in possession-use related drug offences from 2000-01 to 2004-05, whereas South West PCP shows an increase.
· The number of possession-use related drug offences for the Barwon South Western region and across Victoria have hardly changed from 2000-01 to 2004-05.
· Over the five-year period, possession-use related drug offences for Barwon PCP have followed a downward trend, whereas these offences for South West PCP have followed an upward trend.
· No distinct trends can be observed from the data for Southern Grampians-Glenelg PCP, the region, or the state. Number of offences fluctuates between years.
· The city of Greater Geelong and the Barwon PCP had the highest number of offences reflecting the larger population.
Table 65 shows the number of drug offences (use and possession) for selected LGAs, PCPs, Barwon South Western region and Victoria as a proportion of their regional total for the year’s 2000-01 to 2004-05. Please note that these trends are more likely to reflect changes in policing than changes in the number of people who commit drug offences. This table shows similar trends to Table 63.
