The Global Skills for Provincial Victoria (GSPV) is funded under Victoria's Skilled Migration Strategy to assist regional employers attract and retain skilled migrants.
Business and industry in the Geelong region operates in a dynamic environment across a diverse range of sectors. The region is home to over 13,000 businesses offering a wide range of products and services. The GSPV aims to assist employers in the region who are experiencing skill shortages.
To prepare for future change in the employment sector and ensure productivity, business and industry can engage in a number of strategies to build their current workforce. Regional viability both now and in the future requires ready access to qualified and experienced staff; skilled migration can be part of the solution.
What assistance is available to employers interested in skilled migration?
If you have a skilled vacancy that you have been unable to fill through the local employment market your business could be eligible for support through the Geelong Global Skills for Provincial Victoria program.
In the Geelong region, the GSPV can:
- Support employers to learn more about skilled migration
- Provide direct links to Department Immigration And Citizenship (DIAC) employer services
- Provide free advice and referrals to employers
- Link employers to sources of skilled migrants. Potential sources include:
- Skilled migrants already living in Victoria
- International students
- Migrants currently overseas listed on the DIAC skill matching database
- Provide direct links to the State Government of Victoria's Skilled and Business Migration Program

Who are skilled migrants and where do they come from?
Skilled migrants and their families are arriving to our region from all over the world. People continue to migrate from traditional centres like the UK and Ireland but are also arriving from Asia, India, Africa and America.
The Geelong region has a long history of migration and is home to a number of emerging communities who bring their custom, language and culture with them. This new stream of qualified and experienced migrants will enhance the skills available to business and build the face of our multicultural community.
