Information for Geelong region employers

The Global Skills for Provincial Victoria program has been developed to assist business and industry find the right skill sets for difficult to fill vacancies. The program provides free advice to business and industry requiring assistance with skilled migration.

Skilled migrants come from a wide variety of backgrounds and offer both professional and trade skills and experience. Employers can access either temporary or permanent visas to employ a skilled migrant. To be eligible for a working visa participating migrants must comply with a number of criteria set by the Department Immigration And Citizenship (DIAC). Employers can work with DIAC through the GSPV program and can also access a range of State Government of Victoria services through the Skilled Migration Program and GSPV.

Some of the services offered to employers as part of the GSPV program include:

  • Direct assistance and advice on sourcing skilled migrants
  • Links to DIAC Regional Outreach Officers (ROO) providing advice on visa issues
  • Links to Victorian State Government services including the Job Ready Database
  • Advice on trade and professional skills recognition services and programs
  • Advice to skilled migrants liaising direct with employers on regional lifestyle and settlement options
