Business and Industry in Geelong and the surrounding region operates in a dynamic environment across a diverse range of sectors. The region is home to over 13,000 enterprises offering a wide range of services and products. One of the major hurdles currently confronting many employers is finding skilled and experienced staff.
The Global Skills for Provincial Victoria (GSPV) is a program that has been established to address this problem.
The GSPV is part of Victoria's Skilled Migration Program and aims to assist employers attract and retain suitable staff from a range of international sources. The City of Greater Geelong manages the Geelong region and works in partnership with a number government agencies to deliver the program. Skill shortages arise when employers are unable to fill vacancies in common skilled occupation groups from the local community and are unable to attract sufficient labour from other regions in Australia.
