A number of major research and educational institutions have established in Geelong, working closely with industry on significant issues and opportunities.


CSIRO

The CSIRO's Division of Animal Health is at the forefront of biotechnology, protecting the country's livestock industry from the threat of exotic diseases, as well as developing vaccines and offering support services to the farming community.

The CSIRO's Division of Textile and Fibre Technology has made many groundbreaking developments in wool processing and textile manufacture. The Marine and Freshwater Resources Institute at Queenscliff supports the Region's seafood industry, including monitoring the marine environment and seafood products of the State's bay and coastal waters to ensure they remain clean, guaranteeing the quality of Victoria's finfish and shellfish.


Deakin University

One of Australia's leading universities, Deakin, has its base in Geelong. Amongst other things, Deakin is a leader in online learning. The university has two local campuses, one at Waurn Ponds and other in the central city. DeakinPrime has a base in the Management Centre at Waurn Ponds, which is itself a world-class executive facility for conferences and training.

Gordon TAFE and Marcus Oldham

The City is also home to one of the State's more progressive TAFE colleges, the Gordon Institute of TAFE, specialising in vocational training.

The Marcus Oldham Farm Management College, which specialises in agriculture and farm management techniques, and the International Fibres Centre, a world-class centre for wool education and research, from the sheep's back to the finished textile product, are also Geelong-based.
