
The objectives of the Seafood Strategy are to:
- Focus on the identification of niche, higher value added markets
- Further development be based on sustainable resources from aquaculture and wild catch fisheries
- Build on existing core competencies, such as:

- Squid processing
- Scallop processing
- Mussel growing and harvesting
- Volume handling of pilchards
- Move to higher value added products, such as:
-
- Squid - for food service and retail markets
- Mussels - graded product at specific market segments
- Research and develop new aquaculture products in the areas of scallops, oysters and ocean trout farming
- Research and develop higher value added products
- Create networks to co-ordinate the Seafood Strategy and address the industry on four broad fronts:
- Research and Development
- Marketing
- Secondary Processing
- Education and Training
- Develop physical infrastructure to support strategy recommendations.
