The Register accounts for an estimated 90%-95% of the total number of businesses operating in these sectors. The Register is designed to help individuals, companies or government organisations gain an overall understanding of the scope and capability of Geelong industry and to facilitate regional and industry decision making. Specifically the Register can be used to identify:

• Local sources of supply for goods
• Local supply capabilities
• Potential clients for goods
• Potential partners for joint ventures.

The City of Greater Geelong also uses the Register to keep listed business informed of upcoming events, programs and training opportunities that may be of interest.

To be eligible for inclusion as a Manufacturing and Processing operation, businesses must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Conform to the definition of Division C - Manufacturing, of the Australian & New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) as prepared by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
• Have manufacturing or processing as the major activity of the business, that is, over 50% of the business.
• Be based in or have an office in the Geelong Region.
• Operate on a full-time basis.

To be eligible for inclusion as a Business Service operation, businesses must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• The major activity of the business (over 70%) must be to provide services to other business and industry (non-domestic).
• The business must be based in or have an office in the Geelong Region.
• The services offered must be commercially available.
• The business must operate on a full-time basis.
