First elected in March 2001 and re-elected in November 2004, Councillor Ansett represents the Windermere Ward, which takes in the townships of Lara, Avalon, Anakie, Staughtonvale, Rothwell, Rosewall, Batesford, Moorabool, Lovely Banks and part of Corio.
Cr Ansett grew up in the area and was educated at Corio Tech. He is married with three daughters. Cr Ansett is active in his ward being a member of numerous community committees.

Cr Ansett holds the Council portfolio for Telecommunications and the portfolio for Rural and Regional Affairs. Cr Ansett represents the City on committees such as:
- Graffiti Reference Group
- Community Reference Committee Neighbourhood Renewal - Norlane Corio
- Community Arts and Festivals Assessment Committee
- Lara (Secondary School) Local Proposal Committee - Subsequent Stages
"Fixing the Basics, and taking more pride" is high on Cr Ansett's agenda during his term in Council and he describes himself as a "down to earth family man" representing all ages with their issues and concerns.
