mayor@geelongcity.vic.gov.au Cr Mitchell was elected as Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong in December 2008.
Representing the Austin Ward, which includes Breakwater, Moolap, Newcomb, Thomson, Whittington and St Albans Park, he has served on Council since November 2004.
Cr Mitchell was born and raised in the Austin Ward. He has lived in the area for more than 40 years and is married with three children. He has been an active participant in many local sports and community organisations, and has been awarded life memberships of the Thomson Football Club, the South Barwon Swimming Club and the GCA Sharks Swimming Club. His many office positions include past presidency of Thomson Football Club, head coach of the South Barwon and GAC Sharks Swimming Clubs, coach of the Australian World Championship Paralympic team and delegate for Geelong Swimming.
Cr Mitchell holds Council's portfolio for Communications, Sport and Recreation. He also represents the City on committees such as: - G21 Geelong Regional Alliance
