Local Belmont resident, Bruce Harwood was re-elected to Council in November 2004, having first joined Council following a By-Election for the Kardinia Ward in February 2003.
 
He has been a police officer for 25 years and is currently a Detective attached to the Geelong Criminal Investigation Unit.
 
Cr Harwood was re-elected Mayor on 3 December 2007 for a second twelve month term.

As Mayor, Cr Harwood has reaffirmed his commitment to a number of projects and services to the community. Environmental issues regarding the Barwon River and surrounding area, services to the elderly, child care centres and a continued commitment to funding sporting and community organisations remains a priority.

Funding and planning for the relocation of Leisurelink is completed with construction beginning this year. The High Street, Belmont, streetscape project has also been successfully completed and many club renovations have been fulfilled. These have been exciting projects with long term benefits to our region. Cr Harwood will continue to be totally accessible to the community and welcome any discussion on ideas that can benefit Kardinia Ward and Geelong.

Cr Harwood holds the Council portfolio for Tourism and Major Events and the portfolio for Communications. He represents the City on committees such as:
