Belmont resident, Bruce Harwood was re-elected to Council in December 2008, having first joined Council following a by-election for the Kardinia Ward, which includes Belmont and now a large part of Grovedale, in February 2003.

Cr Harwood served as Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong from December 2006 to December 2008.

During his new term of office Cr Harwood has nominated environmental issues regarding the Barwon River and parklands, the completion of Leisurelink and essential services for the elderly and child care centres as projects he will continue to monitor closely in consultation with the community. He will also maintain a close interest in potential development throughout the ward.

Prior to his election Cr Harwood served on the Belmont Primary School Council and was President of the Geelong Amateur Football and Netball Club. He is committed to supporting funding for local community organisations' and sporting club infrastructure projects.

Cr Harwood holds the portfolio for Tourism, Major Events, Strategic Development and Indigenous Affairs and represents the City on committees such as:
