The City of Greater Geelong in conjunction with Central Geelong Marketing, Tourism Geelong and the UCI Organising Committee has produced a kit to help Geelong businesses make the most out of the 2010 UCI Road World Championships.

The 2010 UCI Road World Championships Business Get Ready Kit contains information about the event and advice on how businesses can adapt their operations to capitalise on the event.

The kit is divided into sections including:

• General information about the world championships
• Advice on potential business opportunities
• A traffic and transport guide
• Workforce planning
• Other important issues to consider
• Information on business and city safety
• A quick reference guide

The Business Get Ready Kit is currently available for download at www.geelongaustralia.com.au/2010cycling. Printed copies will be distributed to local businesses situated on the world championships race course in the next few weeks.

“The aim of the Business Get Ready Kit is to provide businesses in the Geelong region information, strategies and tools to ensure the largest event ever to be staged in Geelong becomes an outstanding business opportunity now and into the future,” said City of Greater Geelong Mayor Cr John Mitchell.

“The 2010 UCI Road World Championships will deliver an economic benefit in the tens of millions of dollars to Geelong and the national and international exposure it will create for the Geelong region will far exceed anything we’ve seen during our long history of hosting major events,” said the Mayor.

“If we were to wait until all the information on the event was finalised we would not be able to distribute the kit in time for businesses to take full advantage of the advice contained within it – instead as more information becomes available we will provide updates to the kit through our website,” said Cr Mitchell.

Mayor Mitchell said the information contained in the kit was current but there would be further updates as the detailed planning for the event progressed.

The printed version of the kit will be presented in a ring binder so business operators can add extra information as it becomes available.

“The 2010 UCI Road World Championships will be a week like no other for Geelong,” said the Mayor.

“Normal routine will be changed but at the same time the event will deliver an enormous opportunity for local businesses to capitalise on the hundreds of thousands of spectators expected in Geelong during event week,” he said.
