What to expect in Geelong Host City
The start-finish line for the 2010 Road World Championships is in the heart of Geelong’s main retail and business precinct. Within a five minute radius are two major hospitals plus specialist medical, dental and pharmaceutical services; two multi-storey undercover shopping centres; an arts precinct including public gallery and performing arts centre as well as Geelong’s beautiful waterfront precinct.
There is a full service supermarket in Westfield Shopping Centre. The city centre is home to numerous specialty food retailers including, health food stores, delicatessens, cafes and restaurants.
A second shopping precinct is located in Pakington Street which also forms part of the race circuit. This is one of Geelong’s premier café and restaurant precincts. It has its own supermarket and many boutique shops as well.
There is a choice of arterial roads into and out of the city centre providing ready access to quiet training roads to the east, west and south of central Geelong.
Through the newsletter and this website we will provide regular information about Geelong host city for cycling federations, teams and officials in the lead up to the event.
